Electrical engineering

The Electrical Engineering degree programme has been coordinated with competent companies from industry and trade. The degree subjects take innovative manufacturing and development processes into account. Students are taught a broad basic knowledge in the first semesters. The core and specialisation subjects consistently build on this. As a qualified company, we accompany the continuous implementation of the acquired knowledge in practice with training experience and technical competence. In this way, we give students the chance to recognise and master the professional reality of the engineering profession at an early stage. It is typical for all study programmes at PHWT that the practical part of the study is in the order of magnitude of the theory hours. This ensures permanent practical relevance during the study period and a seamless and stress-free transition to professional work as an engineer. In the foundation area, the engineering fundamentals of electrical engineering are taught on the one hand and non-technical subjects for building up the so-called key qualifications on the other. The engineering fundamentals focus on the following areas.

  • Maths
  • Elektrical engineering / Elektronics
  • Information technology and programming
  • Technical basics

The non-technical subjects include the areas

  • English
  • Business basics
  • Communication and presentation techniques

Degree

In the Bachelor's degree programme, the title Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) is achieved after only seven semesters with the completion of the Bachelor's thesis. This degree entitles students to continue their studies in a Master's programme.

Mechanical Engineering

The mechanical engineering degree programme is divided into

  • Fundamentals
  • Core
  • Area of expertise

While the fundamentals of engineering and mathematics and natural sciences are taught in the basic area, special emphasis is placed in the core area on imparting good knowledge and skills in the construction area and on mastering the most modern calculation and simulation methods. This is complemented by independent work in modern computer laboratories equipped with the latest, practice-relevant software. In the specialisation area there is the possibility - in addition to the compulsory subjects - to select various electives from a wide range of subjects in order to expand the basic knowledge already acquired as individually as possible. In addition, the teaching of interdisciplinary content is characteristic of all phases of the degree programme. In this way, students recognise the strong interdisciplinarity of many sub-fields of mechanical engineering at an early stage. After 7 semesters of study, students graduate with a three-month Bachelor's thesis.

Areas of application

Engineers plan and design technical systems and machines, products and processes and develop them to their optimum solution. In doing so, they rely not only on a broad base of scientific and engineering knowledge, but also to a not inconsiderable extent on intuition, imagination and creative powers. In all of this, however, they must not disregard the economic framework conditions. Typical fields of application of the mechanical engineer in the company are:

  • Research and development
  • Design
  • Work preparation
  • Manufacturing
  • Quality control

Degree

Successful completion of the programme leads to the title Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.).
